Hi!
Does anyone else hate the new facebook chat system? Are there any truly accessible workarounds?
Thanks for your help!
There is a program called Chit Chat which seems to be pretty reasonable. I'm not sure if it's fully accessible, but give it a try and see if it works for you. It's definately easier than facebook's web chat system.
I tried that, it kept loging out on me. I had xp though...
Oh really? That's strange. I ahve XP and don't have that problem. I have noticed it will log me out when something happens to my wireless connection, and then it won't log me back in.
I would say that it is your connection and not the application. If you haven't done so in a while it might be a good idea to power cycle the router. turn off all computers/devices that access the router as a client, unplug the router for a minute, plug back in and wait another minute. Power the computers/devices back up and you should have better luck.
i use the aim client's ability to access fb chat, it works amazingly well.
OK, when I went to install the client, it wasn't accessible and it kept saying something about this other donation program I had to sign up for...
And I've used aim before, but I already have skype/msn on my pc. I know skype works with fb, but lately it hasn't been working. Also, anyone know why my contacts aren't showing up in msn? And also does anyone know where I can get a more accessible msn messenger?
Sorry for all the questions!
I think you can address these accessibility issues by installing one of the multi-protocol messengers like pidgin, instant bird, or miranda.
not sure what exactly is happening with your aim client since mine has always worked. you might want to make sure your installing it from aim.com
oh it has worked, but some of my friends don't show up on it when they do show up on fb. I also tried instant bird but got confused. same with miranda.
Yes. AIM works wonders.... I use it a lot when it comes to facebook. Hope that will help you too... But if you've used aim I don't know of any other suggestions.
aim and windows live don't seem to work for me either. skype seems to work pretty well though. it drove me nuts to have a huge contact list with my facebook connected. facebook's mobile sight is accessible
I use skype now. It's great!
do you know if it works with GW connect?
The only frustrating thing with using skype (for any chatting for that matter) is you have to tab around a ton to get to your messages when the window pops up (unless some kind soul knows some JAWS quick key for that)
You just use alt 1 2 3 4 to see your messages. You can switch from message to message as well if using the Jaws Scripts easily. I do not know about GW Connect, but I'd think they'd have a way.
You can hold several conversations at once. If using the Jaws scripts press insert H and read the instructions. Also on the main script page you can find a complete manual.
gw connect has the same hotkeys to move through conversations but the window must be maximized for this to work. I couldn't read something one day and when i asked for help they reminded me of that and i felt silly because that's one of the first things I check for. as for facebook chat, it's tricky. you can do it from aim, miranda IM or windows live. sometimes people show up, sometimes they don't. If so many people in my family didn't have it i'd ditch facebook in a second but it appears to be the prefered method these days...
Try m.facebook.com You can now use Chat.
What about Instantbird?
I use it in a daily basis.
You can get it at www.instantbird.com
Cheers,
